Cecily Brown, “The Haunter” (2010). Decades after Warhol (and Dave Hickey) there’s no significant Poptimist-equivalent movement in art criticism. Now that Brown is phasing out representation she gets dissed for superficiality, but in painting (more than any other artform, maybe) it’s surfaces that matter.
